Posterly SEO Audit: Turn Free Tool Traffic Into Trials

Public SEO roast••724 transcript segments

One free tool carries the site and nobody signs up from it. Email the 1,048 sites that link to Hopper HQ, swap the “free trial” box for something people want to download, and turn the ChatGPT and Gemini pages into Instagram MCP pages.

In this audit

  1. 1Why one Instagram handle checker is 81% of Posterly’s search traffic
  2. 2The 1,048 sites linking to Hopper HQ that you should email
  3. 3How Reddit, Instagram, and YouTube rank for your tool keywords
  4. 4The full-page offer Semrush and HubSpot use to convert a blog reader
  5. 5Why “Instagram MCP” beats “Posterly for ChatGPT”, and where to get listed

Posterly homepage: one bird logo wired to 18 social platforms

Posterly schedules social posts to 18 platforms, from a dashboard or from your own AI through an MCP server. Alex built it in a space with thousands of competitors.

His question: the free tools bring most of the traffic and almost nobody converts. The agent and MCP guides do a little better. Most customers are outside the UAE, where he is based. Ads are easy for him. How does Posterly grow organically?

DR 33, and one page carries the site

Ahrefs overview for poster.ly: DR 33, 157 referring domains, 242 keywords, 1.7K organic traffic

Domain Rating 33. About 157 referring domains once you filter out spam. 242 keywords and 1.7K visits a month, worth about $3.2K. It is growing.

Ahrefs top pages for poster.ly: the Instagram handle checker gets 1,409 of 1.7K visits

Twenty pages rank. The Instagram handle checker gets 1,409 of those visits, which is 81%. The image resizer gets 86. The Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube guides get about 30 each. The product pages rank for the brand name and little else.

So there are three jobs. Get more links, so the tools and guides you already have climb. Make those pages convert. And build pages for the keywords a buyer types, which today you do not have.

Sort your keywords by cost per click

Ahrefs organic keywords for poster.ly sorted by CPC: instagram username availability at $14.63

Traffic value tells you little on its own. Sort the keyword report by CPC and you see where advertisers spend. Instagram username availability has 1.1K searches and a $14.63 CPC, and you rank second. People checking a handle are setting up an account or buying one. That is someone about to start posting.

Then sort by keyword difficulty to see which ones you hold against strong sites. I exported all 242 keywords and pasted them back into Ahrefs Keywords Explorer. Most of the handle-checker terms are growing year over year.

Every result page hands you a competitor

Google results for “instagram username checker”: Hopper HQ first, Insta Username second

Google instagram username checker. Hopper HQ is first. Insta Username and Instant Username follow. Each one is a site to open in Ahrefs and read the top pages of, and each of those leads to more.

Hopper HQ’s name checker gets 5,366 visits a month. Their Instagram grid planner gets 542, and Posterly has no grid planner. That is a tool to add. Their blog posts on the best time to post each pull a few hundred more, and those posts have links.

Ahrefs backlinks for hopperhq.com: 1,048 groups of best links, one per domain

Open Hopper HQ’s backlinks. Filter to best links, one link per domain, across the whole site. That leaves 1,048 pages.

The first row is the Small Business Expo, DR 72, in a post about the best time to post on TikTok. That page gets 14K visits a month. Further down: Adam Connell’s link-in-bio comparison, BigCommerce, Avasam.

These sites already write about social media tools, and they link to one. Ask to be added to the list. Often simpler: find the contact page and suggest they write about you. A link from a page that links to your competitor is relevant by definition, and these pages have real traffic.

I am emailing you that export. Have Claude Code go down the left column, open each page, find the contact page, and draft the email. It is easy to automate. It is also one of the flows we run at LinkDR. You can do it yourself. It takes time because it is a lot of links.

Reddit, Instagram, and YouTube rank for your keywords

SEO Roast Ahrefs SERP Analyzer: poster.ly 177 keywords, reddit.com 128, instantusername.com 113, instagram.com 95

I exported the top 10 results for all 242 keywords and dropped the CSV into our Ahrefs SERP Analyzer. It counts which domains show up most across your keyword list: 749 pages from 351 domains.

Posterly is first, because it is your list. Reddit is second, with 52 threads across 128 keywords. Then Instant Username, Instagram, Hopper HQ, DNS Checker, YouTube, and Post Bridge.

  • Reddit. Export the threads and comment where it fits. Skip the ones about resizing images. Save the effort for threads close to a scheduling tool.
  • Instagram. Google now ranks Instagram posts and Reels for these terms. The caption is optimized and the post has views. A Reel about what your username says about you can rank for a keyword your tool page cannot.
  • YouTube. The top video for checking username availability is from a channel with 1.5M subscribers. Use the same titles as the videos that rank and record your own. Or email him.

The SERP export and the analyzer link are in the same email.

Post Bridge shows what to build next

Ahrefs backlinks for post-bridge.com: MoneyPrinterV2 on GitHub, Product Hunt, Toolfolio

Post Bridge ranks for the same handle-checker keywords. Their checker gets 977 visits. Their blog gets more: what YouTube pays per 1,000 views, how to see who liked a comment on Instagram.

Export a competitor’s top pages with titles, put it next to your own, and ask Claude Code which tools and posts you are missing. That gives you a better answer than the content gap reports.

Their backlinks have 493 rows and each one is an action. MoneyPrinterV2 is a DR 97 GitHub repo with a Post Bridge integration banner: open a pull request that adds Posterly. Product Hunt: launch. Toolfolio: get listed. For every row, ask what it would take to get the same link.

The guide has a small box. Semrush has a full page.

Posterly’s Google Business Profile guide: text column, a small “Schedule smarter with AI” box in the sidebar

The Google Business Profile guide is fine to read. The sidebar says “Schedule smarter with AI” with a Start Free Trial button. Someone who searched for how to set up a Google profile has no reason to click that.

The column is narrow and there are almost no images. The guide explains why I need a profile. It does not show me how to set one up. The X statistics guide has stat tiles at the top and then the same problem. I expect it is the same across the site.

Semrush’s Google Business Profile post: a full-page pop-up, “Outperform your search competitors”, Try for Free

Semrush ranks for the same topic. Their post shows what the profile looks like, how to claim one, and which buttons to click, step by step, with a screenshot for each. The header says “Try it for free for 7 days”. Scroll down and a full-page pop-up appears, with social proof and one button.

HubSpot goes further. Their post offers a Business Startup Kit: nine templates, Download for Free. Click it and you land in a separate funnel that asks for your email.

For Posterly:

  • Show a full-page pop-up after the reader scrolls, with something tied to the page they are on
  • Change “Join with Google” to “Start 7-day free trial”, or say why to join
  • Add the logos of the platforms you post to, for trust
  • Add screenshots and real steps to every guide
  • Give the “Keep reading” section images, and add an about page

Give the tool visitor something free

Posterly’s TikTok Safe Zone Checker with the same “Schedule smarter with AI” box

The tools work. You upload an image, you get the result, you leave. A free trial of a scheduler is not what that visitor came for.

They are learning how to post on TikTok. Offer that:

  • The formats and hooks that work now
  • How to make slideshows, and UGC with AI
  • Case studies of posts that went viral
  • Seven prompts that let Claude Code run a full campaign

Take the email in exchange. In the prompt pack, every prompt links to the Posterly MCP, so the free thing leads straight into the product. Put a “copy this prompt to your agent” box in the sidebar of the blog and the tools too. You can also run ads to these offers.

Nobody searches “Posterly for ChatGPT”

Posterly’s /chatgpt page: Schedule social posts from ChatGPT

You have a page for ChatGPT, one for Gemini, and more. They do not rank. Someone who wants to automate TikTok is not looking for “Posterly for Gemini”. They do not know what Posterly is. And an MCP is the same for every client, so a page per client says the same thing each time.

Invert it. Build a page per platform.

Google results for “instagram mcp”: a GitHub repo first, then an AI Overview

Someone who wants an agent to post on Instagram searches Instagram MCP. The first result is a GitHub repo, mcpware/instagram-mcp. The AI Overview cites GitHub, Apify, and Gumloop. Zapier and Inro rank further down.

Get listed where Instagram MCP already ranks

MCP Market: Instagram MCP Servers, 11 MCPs built for Instagram

  • GitHub and npm. Publish a free repo called Instagram MCP. In the readme, the setup is either connect to Facebook yourself or let Posterly do it. That is the best route onto this page.
  • MCP Market. It ranks second and lists 11 Instagram MCPs. One is “Ig”, by a single developer, linked to his GitHub. Add yours.
  • mcpservers.org and MCP.so. Both rank and both take submissions. One of them looks out of date.
  • OpenAI. Submit the MCP as a plugin so people can find it inside ChatGPT.

Once you are listed on a page that already ranks second, most of the work is done.

Build /connectors/instagram-mcp

Composio’s Instagram MCP Server for Claude and Cursor page

Gumloop has /connectors/instagram-mcp: the server URL, which clients it works with, a copy-config button, and the list of tools. Composio has /toolkits/instagram with the title “Instagram MCP Server for Claude and Cursor”, example prompts you can type, a setup guide, and internal links to more tools. Zapier has “Instagram for Business MCP”.

Build the same page on Posterly and send people from it to log in. Then repeat it for all 18 platforms you connect. That is your programmatic SEO.

What a page needs to rank: the keyword in the title, a description and H1 that match, images, a video, and a few examples.

After that, write a blog post called “MCP for Instagram”. Inro has one that ranks, with its own diagrams. You can generate those with Claude Code.

“Instagram scheduler” belongs to the giants

Google results for “Instagram Scheduler”: Social Champ, Instagram, Buffer

Your Instagram scheduler page is all right. The title is too long.

The results are Buffer at DR 91, Zapier, Adobe, and Instagram itself. There is not much to do there directly. Blogging Wizard and Adam Connell rank with listicles, and Adam Connell’s “12 Best Instagram Schedulers” is one to email and ask to be included in.

The MCP angle is where you have an advantage, so I would spend the time there.

On the UAE: I would not target it. Go US first. The keywords and the volume are there.

TLDR

  1. One free tool is 81% of your search traffic. Add the tools competitors rank with and you lack, starting with an Instagram grid planner.
  2. Email the 1,048 sites that link to Hopper HQ. Then do the same with Post Bridge’s 493.
  3. Comment on the Reddit threads, and make the Reels and YouTube videos that rank for your tool keywords.
  4. Replace the “Start Free Trial” box with a free download per page, shown as a full-page pop-up. Take the email.
  5. Add images, screenshots, and real steps to the guides.
  6. Turn the per-client pages into per-platform pages. Start with /connectors/instagram-mcp.
  7. Publish the MCP on GitHub and npm, and list it on MCP Market, mcpservers.org, MCP.so, and OpenAI.
  8. Target the US, not the UAE.

The keyword export, the SERP export, both competitor backlink lists, Post Bridge’s top pages, and the SERP Analyzer link are in your inbox.
