0:00 Today we'll be taking a look at IconBuddy, 0:02 which is the ultimate source for icons. 0:04 They purchased a SEO roast from us 0:07 and they were the second customer. 0:09 I'm really excited to take a look at this 0:11 and seeing anything that we can find and improve. 0:14 The IconBuddy is the ultimate source for icons. 0:18 They have a huge library of icons. 0:20 From here we see it's 226,000. 0:24 So it's a huge amount. 0:25 It's a lot to filter through 0:27 and they have a lot of potential 0:29 for a lot of programmatic SEO pages and a lot of content. 0:32 What people can do is they can install IconBuddy 0:36 as a Figma plugin 0:38 so that they have all of these icons immediately in Figma. 0:42 Otherwise they can include them in the VS Code editor 0:44 so that it improves 0:45 and you can import all of your assets easily 0:48 by looking here and being able to copy over the SVG. 0:52 So this really helps development a lot 0:54 because what I do often 0:56 is really going on these websites 0:59 and then opening up Lucida or heroicons.com, 1:02 copying over the SVG and it's a slow process. 1:04 So having this in the editor is a really helpful thing. 1:08 The lifetime access for this is $89 1:11 and then you get a lifetime description 1:13 which includes the plugin access, VS Code extension. 1:18 You can save, generate and do more stuff. 1:21 They have a lot of free tools as well. 1:23 They can create blog thumbnails, 1:24 SVG to PNG conversion to JPEG, Base64, Ico, JSX and so on. 1:30 So it's a huge market. 1:32 There's a lot of potential here 1:34 and there's a lot of helpful tools 1:36 for developers specifically. 1:38 And they seem to be focused on this 1:41 just because they have all of these icons on the top 1:44 such as heroicons and flat UI icons 1:47 and Noto emojis and so on. 1:51 Let's take a look at the Ahrefs dashboard 1:54 to see what we're working with. 1:56 They have a lot of backlinks already 1:58 and it has a decent domain rating 2:00 and they have some search. 2:02 It's growing. 2:03 They started about in March and April 2:05 and they seem to be ranking quite well. 2:08 So it's nice to see them grow. 2:09 It's exciting. 2:10 It's interesting to see what the potential could be 2:13 and I'm curious about how much MRR they're making 2:16 but maybe we will never know. 2:18 The top keyword for the homepage 2:20 which is like your brand homepage 2:23 is open source icons. 2:24 They're ranking number 40 for this. 2:26 This seems to be very relevant to them 2:28 and they also have a strong brand. 2:30 IconBuddy people look for this 2:32 about 1,300 searches per month 2:34 and they have everything covered. 2:37 So it's super unique. 2:38 They have the Figma link here. 2:40 They have the DevHunt, Visual Studio Marketplace, 2:42 Greater Supply, Hacker News, Product Hunt, 2:45 LinkedIn and so on. 2:47 So that is very good to see. 2:48 It's nice to have a strong brand 2:49 because you will be the only one covering this keyword 2:52 and it's a very strong signal that you're a real business 2:54 and not some random website. 2:57 But being able to rank well for your primary keyword 3:00 that is a bit more broader, 3:03 for example, free SVG icons or open source icons 3:06 is also a very powerful thing 3:08 because that is your category of tool. 3:11 And you'll see a bunch of competitors here 3:14 and the keyword difficulty seems to be high 3:17 as well as the search volume, 3:19 about 700 to 3,000 in the USA 3:23 and you'll see a bunch of competitors. 3:25 I'm not sure which one is better 3:27 but let's go with free SVG icons 3:29 just because we have a stronger keyword difficulty. 3:32 Let's keep that for later 3:33 and first take a look at the top pages 3:36 that we have for this website. 3:38 The other top pages here are now, for example, icons. 3:43 Like this one, you can download the SVG, the PNG, 3:46 you have the images and a few image examples. 3:50 If we take a look at this search only, 3:54 we will see a bunch of these images as well. 3:58 Here is an image from Medium, 3:59 Pado, GitHub and so on. 4:02 And let's see if we find our target, which is IconBuddy. 4:07 Actually, Iconify is ranking higher here, 4:11 GitHub is ranking higher 4:12 and here we see the R-Code CD SVG icon 4:15 and it has a smaller meta description 4:18 if we compare it to some other ones. 4:23 Yeah, here we have a better description potentially 4:26 but this one includes download, copy and paste 4:29 the SVG and transparent PNG icons for your project. 4:34 Here, our meta description is 4:36 free icon by dev icon downloads. 4:39 Maybe we can include something in the meta description. 4:42 Over here, maybe we can include something 4:45 like download, copy and paste 4:48 and then maybe include a little bit more about the icon. 4:51 Maybe it doesn't have to be SVG only 4:53 because you do have different types. 4:55 You have SVG, PNG, JSTACK and Base64. 4:59 So maybe we don't really need to include this in the title 5:01 and we can skip potentially also the brand name here. 5:04 The headings seem to be a bit off. 5:07 The H1 should be here as the H1 5:12 because this is the most important title in the pig. 5:15 This is a H2, icons in action. 5:17 I would call this icon examples 5:19 or R-Code CD icon examples as a better H2. 5:24 And the other ones you can remove. 5:25 H5 doesn't really make sense. 5:27 So move this from H4 to HH2 and make an icons in action. 5:32 The other things are canonical layout seems to be set. 5:36 The restructured data is missing. 5:39 So that is important to include here in the image search 5:42 because you will be able to show up in the image search. 5:46 The OG URL is wrong. 5:48 It should be the same as the canonical URL here 5:51 and it should match ideally 5:53 because that is the image that you want to display. 5:55 The OG image here, it's the default banner. 5:59 And I would definitely change this 6:01 to something a bit more unique 6:03 to this icon that you're showing 6:04 because here in Google, 6:05 you can see that is the icon that is being displayed. 6:08 But actually we want to make sure that we cover user intent. 6:12 And we see here for that icons.dev, 6:14 they show this specific icon over here in the OG URL. 6:18 And this will really match 6:20 and improve your position on this page 6:21 because Google knows that it's extra relevant 6:24 and it's extra unique. 6:25 And it will understand more about what your page is about 6:30 by using the OG URL and the OG image, 6:33 make them more correct and make them match everything else. 6:39 The structured data is very important. 6:41 As an example, 6:42 let me show you one website that I created earlier 6:45 and it's GradientPay. 6:47 If we take a look at the search results here, 6:50 we'll see that gradient page is being shown here 6:54 for the image. 6:55 So it's showing this pack of images 6:59 first before all the other content. 7:01 And having this position is very important 7:04 because it's actually a lot higher than the native websites, 7:08 like especially with one and two, 7:10 three big pixels, 7:12 autumn gradients, 7:13 and some other examples. 7:16 And then at number 12, 7:17 it's only us as a website, GradientPay. 7:20 But however, we do rank for the images here. 7:23 And this image search is giving us a lot of traffic. 7:26 And that's very important to optimize 7:29 because a lot of people, 7:30 if they're looking for an icon, 7:31 they will do an image search immediately. 7:34 And here we see the gradient page is ranking number one 7:37 on the image search specifically. 7:39 And that is because we optimized the OG images 7:43 for all of these packs. 7:44 They will have structured data on everything. 7:47 And that is very helpful for Google 7:50 to understand what your website is about. 7:52 The way that we implemented this is by using metadata. 7:57 You can take a look at here, for example, 8:00 and somewhere we'll be able to find this content. 8:04 For example, you have good alt tags 8:07 and you have, for example, 8:08 good images of all the correct item scope, 8:11 item type, image object, and so on. 8:14 And then we have a class hidden, 8:16 which includes the content area, 8:17 the license, the acquired license page, 8:19 the creator, schema, and so on. 8:22 So this schema is very important 8:23 for making your images rank a little bit higher in Google. 8:26 And it is some type of technical SEO 8:29 that maybe not all people know about. 8:31 So the way that you do this is you do a search 8:34 for image structure data. 8:35 Take a look at the Google for Developers 8:37 and do explain a little bit more 8:39 and include all the ways that you include, 8:42 you can include this structure data. 8:44 The way that I did this is by using microdata. 8:47 And then it's a simple few attributes 8:49 such as item scope, item type, 8:51 and adding the item props in this way. 8:53 You can just use meta tags here specifically in the text 8:56 and use some type of a class hidden 8:58 to make sure that this is included, 9:01 but maybe it's not included in your page. 9:03 Otherwise, you can use a simple JSON-LD. 9:06 You can include this in Next.js 9:07 or any other type of page that you would have. 9:10 And this also is a possibility. 9:13 It just sends a little bit more data over, 9:16 but it's easier to find this 9:18 and it's easier to detect this with tools. 9:20 So that's why the HSTL toolbar is not showing this. 9:24 But it's very important still 9:26 to make sure that the org image and org URL is set. 9:28 And I think for technical SEO, 9:30 that will really boost everything on your website. 9:33 So 100% make sure that this is correct. 9:36 And either you rank here higher on this page specifically 9:39 because it can include the PNG icons and SVG, 9:43 but also be shown here in the images specifically. 9:45 So make sure that this is correct. 9:48 And this will improve the ranking for all of your pages, 9:50 the icon logos, simple icons, and so on. 9:55 So that is super important to get right. 9:58 We will maybe take a look at Revit MQ icon. 10:01 And we see that here we see some competitors, 10:03 for example, icon duck being shown here in the website 10:07 and also here in the images. 10:09 And the image search, we also see icon duck is showing up. 10:13 And they have this position covered. 10:15 And a few things that I saw that are a little bit different 10:19 in your website compared to your competitors. 10:23 Here, for example, you have more of a widescreen icon 10:27 versus a square icon as a logo. 10:30 And this is something that other people might prefer, 10:33 but also you have a few things of damage in action. 10:36 But this is not ideal, right? 10:38 It is super small and people will not be able to see it. 10:41 And it doesn't really help you rank that much. 10:43 It would be better to include like widescreen 10:45 or square variants, and it will really help you. 10:49 But one thing that I saw, 10:51 they have similar icons and illustrations. 10:54 So they have different types of icons over here. 10:57 And they do include the slug in this way. 11:00 And you can click through 11:01 and open different variations of this icon. 11:04 And that is something that you don't really have. 11:06 So if you have, 11:07 they could have included like a widescreen example. 11:09 And they also include some icon details. 11:12 You can potentially generate this with AI in bulk 11:16 or make some type of programmatic SEO keyword insertion. 11:20 So say like open source icon is named this, 11:23 it's licensed under this, 11:24 it's available in CSVG and PNG in these sizes. 11:28 You have also this, 11:29 but it's a little bit different and it's not text. 11:32 So Google has potentially some difficulty 11:35 in understanding this. 11:36 And it's especially important to include the date. 11:39 Dates are very important. 11:41 And some use cases related to tags. 11:43 Thumbnail previews of all sizes 11:45 so that Google also can optimize their specific images. 11:48 They even have an FAQ for all these icons. 11:51 And they have a better internal linking structure 11:54 where they show related icons and illustrations 11:56 to different types of icon sets and so on. 11:59 So they have at least like a hundred different links 12:03 or internal links throughout their website. 12:05 So if this page has specifically 12:07 a high amount of ranking or backlinks, 12:10 it will spread out the link juice 12:12 to everywhere on their website. 12:13 However, for you, 12:15 you don't really have this related icon sets 12:19 or packs or similar examples. 12:22 So this is really something that you need to improve. 12:25 And this will be super, super important. 12:27 If there's one thing that I would try to do 12:29 is fix the technical SEO, 12:31 make sure you have these pages all set up. 12:34 If we take one thing that we can finish off with 12:39 is by checking the competitive analysis 12:41 and opening up your domain 12:43 and seeing what we can improve for 12:46 compared to your competitors. 12:48 So for example, we saw icon doc earlier. 12:50 Let's include them over here 12:52 and see what they are doing right. 12:57 We can do also a quick scan first of their top pages 13:02 and how they rank. 13:03 They are also decently growing, 13:04 but they have 400,000 traffic while you have only 300. 13:08 So you can definitely 400X your traffic over time. 13:13 They are ranking for WhatsApp logo, 13:15 Apple logo, emoji, Instagram logo. 13:17 And all of these have a huge amount of volume. 13:20 So WhatsApp logo, 13:21 3 million people are looking for this for some reason. 13:24 Okay. 13:25 They also have emojis specifically that people search for, 13:29 which I didn't know actually could be a keyword. 13:31 So having some types of emojis 13:33 would be very important as well 13:35 because you can have different types of icon 13:37 and include a lot of this text. 13:42 So that seems like a huge amount of SEO traffic 13:45 that you could cover 13:46 just by making a page for every emoji that exists. 13:49 Covering all of these specific variants 13:52 that you also might have, 13:54 Apple logo, emoji, 13:55 and different icons and different tags and different sets. 13:58 This will be also very helpful for users, 14:00 but also for Google and SEO. 14:02 And maybe check who else is ranking for, 14:05 example, for Spotify logo. 14:08 You might see, 14:09 okay, it's IconDuck first, 14:11 but who else is here? 14:13 Or branding, faces, Vecteezy. 14:16 So they are more of a vector tool. 14:19 So they have different types of icons and logos as well. 14:23 Let's take a look at maybe if they have some icons. 14:27 For example, 14:28 just, oh, we see IconDuck also first here. 14:31 And as you can see, 14:32 they're really getting a lot of traffic 14:33 just from Google search and images over here. 14:39 Or a vector logo, 14:40 let's take a look here 14:42 and include it into our competitive analysis as well. 14:46 Iconify design, 14:48 let's remove this one 14:49 and take a look at the keyword competitors for you. 14:53 So they, Vecteezy is ranking for wallpaper HD, 14:56 but maybe we need to take a look 14:58 if at least two competitors are ranking for anything 15:01 to include it to make sure that it's even more relevant 15:04 and so on, 15:05 because this amount is 230,000 searches, 15:09 that's quite a lot 15:10 and it might not be always relevant. 15:12 So here we have a huge list, 15:13 that's the Instagram logo, 15:15 WhatsApp icon. 15:16 They have a huge amount of volume. 15:19 So that is something that you want to prioritize. 15:21 I will include this list as an exploit 15:25 into your audit. 15:26 So you can take a look at this competitor result 15:28 and this might be very helpful for you. 15:31 But I won't go through everything here, 15:33 but it is a very good amount of things to check out 15:37 to see if you can add more content here. 15:40 And the link intersect, 15:42 let's take a look. 15:44 They have a lot of links from all of your competitors, 15:46 except you have a lot of links from Team Forest, 15:48 Behance, Dribbble, Bing, and so on. 15:52 I will include a small exploit as well, 15:55 maybe just the first 1,000. 15:57 And that's something that you can see 15:59 if you will be able to include your website 16:03 in one of these lists. 16:05 One way that you can go through here 16:06 is take a look at the Team Forest, for example, 16:09 where do they get links from? 16:11 And for example, here they say, 16:12 okay, it's three icons by icon duck. 16:15 And that is something maybe that you can also do 16:19 in some way like this. 16:21 This is not done overnight, 16:23 but if you're building a brand for the longterm, 16:26 that is something that you want to focus on for the future. 16:30 I will include all of this stuff in the audit. 16:33 So take a look at the full blog post in the description 16:37 and this should be covered. 16:40 And hopefully all of this information helps you. 16:43 To recap, make sure that your technical SEO is correct. 16:46 Include the OG image for your icon, 16:49 add more related icons, improve the internal links, 16:52 and spread the link juice from everywhere. 16:55 And this will really help you in SEO. 16:58 Focus on more icons from the competitor gap 17:01 that your competitors are ranking for. 17:04 And yeah, just keep building. 17:07 It looks really good. 17:08 Hopefully you'll get a lot more traffic from this 17:11 and I hope this helps. 17:12 Thank you.
