Good morning. Today, we're taking a look at guinea pig. We will do a live roast and tell you anything that I find that they can improve their SEO with. This can include keywords, backlinks ideas, and any other tip that I find that they can improve their organic traffic and get more sales and revenue. Guinea pig is created by Elias Stravik who tweeted here on the live SEO roast tweet. We'll be doing a lot of these roasts in the next few days, but if you want to skip the queue, just go to seoroast.org. And get a roast yourself. You can skip all the queues, get listed immediately, and I'll do a professional live roast just like this one. But without further ado, let's take a look at guinea pig. So guinea pig has a H1 over here, employee well-being and Slack and Microsoft Teams. Guinea pig is an app from Slack and Microsoft Teams that helps your team stay healthy, happy, and engaged with everything from a relaxing mindfulness to sweaty workout. It is quite clear what it is about. It's a HR app for Slack and Microsoft Teams, which has both of these in the bottom. It has a video that kind of what the tool does. And this is like a live Slack setup. So I guess let's take a quick browse through here. It's a few seconds. You can start your workday, get some recommendations. So it's already being used by a bunch of startups. You can create a healthy workspace culture, take a calming break, and set a reminder. Quick recommendations, love by HR. Success reports, simple pricing, premium membership. It has an FAQ section, and you can book a demo. That's about it, put them to the bottom. I don't think they have a blog link here anywhere, but let's take a look at Ahrefs and see what it says. So here we can see that they have a 29 domain rating and they have about 20 to 50 backlinks and the keywords that they're getting are just two. Let's take a look at that. Keywords, it's actually almost nothing. So it's actually just a brand name, guinea pig. And even then, big app, they are ranking number 25. So if you type in guinea pig on Google, you actually get Bay Road and tried because it's a popular name. It can happen, of course, that they will rank higher for this over time, but the chances are very low, especially if it's such a domain rating. But yeah, like for me, it's showing up, it's personalized. The guinea pig app is definitely first. What can help is renaming your brand more to like guinea pig HR, but yeah, it's heart rate, but guinea pig app, maybe in this case is a little bit better. Don't get confused with heart rate. Yeah. Or guinea pig Slack, guinea pig teams, all of these seems to work. They have also like a link from Microsoft and a link from Slack over here, so they're listed here. If you type, if you click on get it now and you have to log in. I'm not sure, uh, allow like backlinks to this, to like the guinea pig, but if they would, that would definitely recommend it. Let's take a look here. And they link back to the legal slash privacy policy. And this is the page that they get a backlink from. So this is sending like link juice back to the guinea pig. I don't know exactly what a link is, but yeah, here, as you see, like Microsoft doesn't seem to allow the links back, but it should be, there could be a potential that you're able to add more links here. Maybe in the license agreement or in the privacy policy, but this seems to be the only link so far. Maybe if there's any other options, they would have to definitely add them, but this links back to the privacy. And then here on this page, it's actually like a full screen. You've been the page. And it is linking back to, and it's linking forward to other pages. It is actually not linking back to the home page, this page. So if there's a way I'm guessing these like you've been there or something, if there's a way that you wouldn't be able to embed this page into an iframe, you would be able to recover more link juice from Microsoft. Instead of this just being like a page that you get links from, but it's actually not sending traffic or links back to their home page. So it's not powering up the home page, but it is showing up in the domain rating, but it's very important that you would link back to guinea pig or other parts of your website from this page, because it's really helping from Microsoft because it's 96 domain rating. So it definitely helps. Let's do the same for Slack. We have the support page here, developer website and the privacy policy, very similar. And here we see to the support page. This is what it should look like. It links back to the home. There's a link to the home page and also here and the back to the privacy page. So if it's possible to change this, I would definitely do this and this would help you recover more link juice. The other back things that they have for this website are generally very low. These are like they show up in every site because they have linked to basically everything. There's a, they're listed on some Swedish startup thing on indiehackers.com, but otherwise they're not really getting any traffic. So this is very tricky. They would have to do a bit more backlink building over time for this apps, someone types in stuff like best Slack apps for remote teams. There are multiple listicles here that talk about Slack apps in general, right? For team collaboration, for keeping remote work on track and so on. So definitely getting listed on slack.com and some kind of blog posts would definitely help them get more traffic. If there's a way, for example, as you can see, Donut is a popular one that I know. And they're being listed here, right? So Donut app clockwise could be a competitor, but let's take a look at Donut in a bit. And otherwise let's keep looking at the articles that you mentioned. Yeah. As we've seen Donut, this again being mentioned here. So Donut, if we check the website, it's like turning employee engagement into productivity and growth. So it's actually also like a Slack app and they set you reminders for like talk, you know, let's do a 30 minute mentorship session, like automation for a team so that HR teams go together and they have a lot of productivity boosting, trust building between teams and so on. So they're actually being used quite often and they have a lot of links, right? And that gives them Donut specifically like a 75 domain rating because they have been listed on many websites and they really get like traffic plus backlinks from all over the place. Right. I don't recognize any other one. So let's keep looking. Yeah. As we see again, Donut is being mentioned here and best Slack apps for remote builders. So this is a survey tool. The next one, Slack tab, spontaneous meetups. Snack we can check, but it's on the, on the Slack store. You can visit their home page, but they did not even vote out. They have a lot of referring links, but the website seems to be down. So that's not great for SEO. So yeah. If there's a way that you can buy over this website about a Snack, that would be really good for you. Otherwise, if we check the backlink profile for donut.com, we see that they have a huge domain rating and these are some of the posts that they have been added to. So like 35 icebreakers. If people are looking for icebreaker, we have an article about this from slider.com and they mentioned Donut here somewhere. So if we check the list, as you can see, Hey, you should try Donut, right? So you, it's really about getting guest posts being mentioned in all these articles. So one way I would try to do this is reach out to copy this link that you found the article on, reach out to the people here by finding like the contact us page and writing a message, right? So you could say like, Hey, my email and say you are interested in something else, right? Hey, I saw, and I built a similar app for Slack. Could we get mentioned on your blog if possible? And then you send out the email and see if they respond, right? In most of the cases they won't respond, but it's still like a really good way of getting very high targeted backlinks, right? Because this is one of the best backlinks for donut.com and because this page has 21,000 traffic itself, right? If we check this page specifically, again, 35 icebreakers, we see the traffic and keywords in the CO2 bar by interest. And if we click on it, we see that they're ranking for like icebreaker games, which has 14,000, 30,000 keyword volume. So they're really ranking well and they're getting a lot of traffic, which also says like real page traffic to donut because people read this page and they link out to them. So this is like a lot better than any other backlink that you would be able to get because it has like real traffic, right? So similarly, you just keep going to this list from what I would try to do is really focus one of these competitors, like donut, get Ahrefs or SEMrush as a similar tool, go through all of these posts. Really, it could be hundreds actually, but it's really worth doing. Like you ideally have someone on the team who's able to take a lot of this work and do a lot of this backlink outreach building. So here's 50 awesome team building activities from another link. And they talk about human nod and so on, and they will eventually ask, Hey, number 25, you should integrate donut. And they get a backlink, they get a page and so on, right? Next one, the 52 virtual team building activities. And let's take a look here. They're talking about number one, you should try out the donut app, right? 48 fun office game. Again, you should try donut. Bonusly, 10 meaningful team building activities have done a chance, right? Very similar as a strategy. You just keep replicating this and trying to get back links from these pages. The reason I would focus on the top one is because they already link out to a Slack tool, which is a sort of a competitor. So they might already be interested in another tool. So it's a lot easier to propose a link from these pages than any other page. That's random. So if they're like interested in linking back to you, they would be able to maybe negotiate some way of also being linked either through a payment or either to like a affiliate partnership or a link exchange. So if you send your email, definitely offer something in return. It can be something like, Hey, I will offer you 20% off on a link exchange. Offer you 20% or 30% affiliate partnership revenue. If you use this tracking link that I set up for total to something and people purchase over time, so that's good to bring revenue to the site. Otherwise you say like, I will pay you a hundred to $300 up to $1,000 for a link to be inserted in one of these top 50 items. Or you could say like, I will link back to your website. For example, you could say like, I will link back to snack nation, which is some delicious, healthy snacks for your team from my blog posts. So you would write an article on guinea pig.com at that app and you would link back to snack nation and then you say, okay, and mutually we can add an article talking about each other. So your next step to get there also, you would have to start a blog, right? So you would ideally start off writing articles similar to these ones. If we check some of these pages and top pages for donut.com, they have a bunch of blog posts as well. So they have a virtual water cooler, selfie contest, a work anniversary for a Zoom background, funny custom emojis that you can use for Slack, like a buddy system for Slack. So you would ideally talk a lot about this stuff on your blog as well. And in guinea pig, you don't really have anything like this so far. It is just ranking for the homepage. So the next step is definitely start a blog. And let's take a look at snack nation.com, which was the food snack stuff. So they have an article on healthy snacks, corporate gift ideas, gift for coworker, work anniversary memes, office party themes, desk pranks, riddles for work. This is builtin.com. They talk about what is AI, what is creating the future of AI, where do you see yourself in five years? The next one is surfoffice.com. So it's talking about team building activities. So they talk about office games, work riddles, rapid fire questions, how to get to know your games and so on. Outdoor games for adults, team building games, picnic games. And this one, slido.com, they talk about multiple choice questions, all hands meeting, funny poll. So really take a look at a lot of these competitors, make a list, find out what you can also write about on guinea pig, the stuff about like employee well-being, stuff about how to create a healthy workplace, morning stretch yoga exercises that you can do in the team. Or in general, like stuff about best Slack apps, best ideas, articles like we saw before about like how to improve your culture and your team, fitness challenges for teams, remote work, fitness or sports and so on. So this really helps. And one, being able to link to other websites, two, getting links back to your blog posts and your website. And otherwise it's like a lot of content marketing. So if your sales team or marketing team needs extra content, they already have it out there. So that way they're able to leverage a lot of the content that they wrote for, not only for your blog, for the SEO value, but also for LinkedIn, Twitter, email newsletters, support information. So really content marketing is really going to help you get better SEO and better sales and revenue over time. I hope this really helps. From what I'm seeing, the best thing that you have to do is again, start a blog, right? Start writing about culture and employee stuff and get more backlinks by contacting a lot of these other publishers that are linking back to Donut and do like a targeted outreach campaign. So these two things should give you a better domain rating and get you more traffic over time. Good luck.

Here is a live SEO audit of Guinea Pig, a Slack app for employee wellbeing. In this post, I'll share my analysis of their organic traffic strategies, backlink profile, and recommendations to help them improve search rankings.

Analyzing Guinea Pig's On-Page SEO

Untitled.png

Guinea Pig has a clear homepage headline targeting keywords like "employee wellbeing" and "Slack and Microsoft Teams". The rest of the page explains the app's purpose and value proposition.

Untitled.png

However, they currently rank #25 for their brand name "guinea pig" since it competes with the actual animal.

Recommendations:

  • Improve brand name for SEO, e.g. Guinea Pig HR
  • Optimize for related keywords like "guinea pig slack"

Checking Backlinks from Microsoft & Slack

Untitled.png

Guinea Pig has links from the Microsoft and Slack app stores.

Untitled.png

The Microsoft link only points back to their privacy policy page, not the homepage. To improve, link back to homepage from Microsoft app page if possible.

Untitled.png

The Slack app page links back better, with links to both homepage and privacy policy.

Untitled.png

Overall, Guinea Pig needs more backlinks from quality sites. Their current links are weak with little equity passed.

Comparing to Competitor Donut

Untitled.png

A competitor - Donut, has a much higher domain rating of 75+ due to being mentioned on many sites.
