0:00 Hey everyone, today we're taking a look at Betterworld. 0:02 They help you start fundraising for free. 0:06 It's a bigger website with a 76 domain rating 0:09 and already a lot of search traffic. 0:11 It's a platform that makes it easy 0:13 for non-profits to accept donations online. 0:15 Betterworld has a noble mission 0:16 to help charities raise funds more effectively. 0:19 And we'll take a look at how they are marketing themselves, 0:22 attracting organic search traffic, 0:24 and we will cover everything in this SEO audit. 0:26 At SEOworks.org, we donate 10% of our revenue 0:30 towards climate change. 0:31 And we've worked in the past with Bang.Green 0:33 and Accenture Rebellion to do SEO for them 0:37 and to build nice websites 0:38 that help the world be a better place. 0:42 I'll dive deep into the Betterworld's keyword rankings, 0:45 on-page optimizations, backlink profile, 0:48 and more to identify opportunities to boost their SEO 0:51 and get in front of more donors 0:52 and non-profits searching online. 0:54 We'll compare Betterworld 0:55 to some of the top competitors like DonorBox, 0:57 GiveButter to see how they stack up 0:59 and where they can improve their online search presence. 1:02 So make sure to stick around in the end. 1:04 I'll give you some juicy insights 1:06 of how to work with a bigger domain rating website. 1:10 So if we take a look here, 1:12 we will see that their website is already very good, 1:14 very optimized. 1:15 They have mentions from Forbes. 1:17 They have mentions from, 1:19 they work together with 85,000 amazing non-profits. 1:23 And if we take a look at the domain rating 1:25 and the things that we can see on Ahrefs, 1:27 they have a huge domain rating, which is 76. 1:30 And this means they are the top 28,000 website in the world. 1:34 So this is really good. 1:35 They have a lot of search traffic 1:36 and they rank for a lot of the keywords already. 1:39 And as we see, their search traffic is really boosting 1:42 and going up. 1:44 So they even pay a little bit to page search, 1:47 which means Google Ads, 1:49 if we take a look at some of their existing landing pages, 1:52 they have OP auctions, as an example, 1:54 and they are ready to bid for this auction app keyword 2:00 to make sure that they show up for this listing. 2:03 So they have made a specific landing page for this one. 2:07 It's a little bit more optimized, 2:08 but it's not optimized for SEO, which is fine 2:10 because this page is likely non-indexed. 2:13 But this makes sure that your page 2:15 has a better conversion rate 2:17 and is specifically optimized 2:18 for the keywords that you're looking for. 2:20 So this is a nice way, 2:22 and this means they're ready to pay 2:24 to be on these platforms, to show up in Google as well. 2:27 So they're likely also making sure, 2:30 instead of spending that money on Google Ads, 2:33 they could as well spend it on SEO 2:35 and get even better results. 2:37 Let's take a look at their top pages 2:38 where they're getting traffic currently from. 2:40 So it's Better World, their home page. 2:43 People look for betterthisworld.com 2:46 and they also show up here for this result, 2:49 which potentially has a bit more search funding. 2:51 But for Better World and Better World Login, 2:54 there's about 1,000 to 2,000 searches per month, 2:57 and they get most of the traffic 2:58 because they're ranking number one for this. 3:01 Also for Better World's fundraising and money and so on. 3:05 They have some support articles, 3:07 for example, how to retract a bid for the login page. 3:10 And then the top pages that they're currently 3:13 getting traffic from are, for example, 3:15 GoFundMe alternatives, things to sell at a school, 3:19 youth fundraising ideas, a Better World auction, 3:22 how to do online raffles, free raffles, 3:24 gala ideas, car wash fundraiser. 3:26 So it's a lot of topics about charities, fundraising events. 3:30 After a while, the traffic seems to drop a bit lower 3:33 because they're not always ranking photo-specific pages 3:36 and the first 100 results are quite good. 3:39 But they do have a lot of existing pages, 3:42 about 2,000 to 8,000, 3:43 which gives them roughly 20K searches per month. 3:47 And they seem to have stalled a little bit, 3:50 but meanwhile, they're still growing 3:52 if you look over the years. 3:54 They do get a lot of backlinks already, 3:56 which is a good sign. 3:57 And for most of that strategy that they're working with 4:01 is by offering subdomains. 4:04 For example, for Sperry's Movies House, 4:06 they accept some types of donations 4:08 and they can request one. 4:10 And those are subdomain backlinks that they get. 4:14 It is a really good strategy, 4:16 which gives them most of their domain rating currently. 4:19 Because these bigger charities, 4:21 they add a link to their existing website. 4:23 So this is a really good strategy that works 4:25 if you have some type of self-hosted content 4:29 or bio-link pages or even profile pages. 4:34 This will really work well as a strategy 4:36 of having some type of information 4:38 or content on your website that users can create. 4:41 So most of your backlinks are actually from this. 4:44 If we take a look at the backlinks specifically 4:48 for their blog, for example, 4:49 here we can filter on flash blog. 4:52 We see that the traffic is steadily growing, 4:55 so they are effectively investing more into SEO, 4:59 so 300 pages more or less. 5:01 And if we look at the backlinks for those pages, 5:04 they have about 800 links, which is still good, 5:08 but it's of course less than their overall strategy, 5:10 but it still of course works. 5:13 So even DonorBox has some links to them, 5:15 which is a competitor of a higher domain rating, 5:18 and they link out to the target. 5:21 So DonorBox blog has even more traffic 5:24 than BetterWorld.org, and it's a competitor. 5:27 They also wrote a lot of pages, 5:29 but they get a little bit better traffic 5:31 because they have a better domain rating. 5:33 Compared to the 76 domain rating, they have a 91, 5:36 and they have a lot more backlinks. 5:38 But it's really nice to see that they're ready 5:41 to link out to competitors 5:43 that potentially have better results. 5:46 Otherwise, yeah, it's more content, more blogs. 5:50 I'm guessing this is mostly natural 5:52 just because they are fairly well-known, 5:54 but the pages, if we check on page traffic, for example, 5:57 most of those pages don't actually have so much traffic 6:00 that are like really real nice backlinks 6:04 that go to those pages, right? 6:06 So they, one, two, three, four, 6:08 and those are pages with real traffic. 6:10 So it's not they are linked somewhere 6:12 where they talk about the best auction platforms, 6:15 for example. 6:16 If you type in this result, best auction sites, 6:19 or best fundraising sites, 6:22 people look for this specifically, 6:25 and they see a list of domains. 6:28 They are not, for example, here. 6:30 And GoFundMe is ranking for this page, 6:32 and this page only gets about 5,000 volume per month. 6:39 And they do have some competitors here. 6:42 If we compare quickly, for example, 6:45 they don't link out specifically to competitors here, 6:48 but they do mention them. 6:50 But for example, this donation website, 6:52 yeah, they don't really link out to anyone. 6:55 Let's take a second example, best overall. 6:58 For example, Classy has again mentioned the second time here 7:00 in the second blog post. 7:02 And we see that they do have a high domain rating also, 7:06 which is 88 compared to 76 from BetterWorld. 7:09 And they do also have a lot of traffic. 7:11 But the thing that I wanted to show 7:12 is that their backlinks over here, 7:15 they are much better potentially 7:18 because they have a lot more page traffic, 7:20 110K and so on, also from specific competitors. 7:28 So that is really nice to see. 7:29 Anyway, how would I try to grow this website? 7:34 It's by making or focusing more 7:37 on the bottom of the funnel keywords. 7:39 For example, GoFundMe alternatives are really nice. 7:42 They already got a ton of traffic in here 7:44 and PayPal alternatives. 7:46 So make sure that you have a bit more 7:48 of those bottom of the funnel keywords 7:50 or that you're ranking for the keywords 7:52 that we saw earlier, such as auction sites, as an example. 7:57 One thing that I generally do here for bigger sites 8:01 is running a competitive analysis. 8:03 And then you type in the target 8:05 and some of the competitors. 8:08 I already did this over here. 8:10 We have a competitive gap of these top websites. 8:15 So it's DonorBox.org, GoFundMe, GiveButter, 8:18 Fundly, Zephy, Snowball Fundraising. 8:20 And they have a lot of specific traffic. 8:23 And here we can see the keywords 8:24 they have in common with each other. 8:26 So the biggest match, for example, 8:29 here is with DonorBox.org. 8:32 They have about 8,500 similar keywords to each other. 8:36 One thing that we then do is by checking the results 8:41 by filtering on the target 8:44 that BetterWorld does not have this keyword. 8:46 And then at least two competitors 8:48 have this keyword in the top 10. 8:50 And then we see a quicker result over here. 8:52 And we see that they are the keywords, 8:56 for example, that are more bottom of the funnel, 8:58 which give the top volume. 9:00 And then it's donation sites. 9:02 So this seems to be one of the most important keywords 9:05 that both of these competitors rank in the top 10 for, 9:08 which is Class C here, GiveButter, GlobalGiving, 9:10 CharityNavigator, and GoFundMe. 9:13 But our specific, and DonorBox, 9:16 but our specific BetterWorld target isn't yet. 9:19 They don't have this keyword at all. 9:20 They're not ranking for this whatsoever. 9:24 So that is something very important 9:25 that you want to focus on. 9:27 Make sure that those are very high and grow over time. 9:32 Some ways to grow higher here is by making some blog posts. 9:36 For example, DonorBox and GoFundMe, 9:38 they're not ranking for this on their main homepage, 9:40 but they're ranking for this because they wrote about it. 9:43 They have two blog posts, 9:45 the Best Online Fundraising Platforms, 9:47 which go really in-depth, 9:48 and then they place themselves first as number one, 9:52 and then they highlight some other competitors. 9:55 One way that you can try to get higher here 9:58 is by contacting and negotiating some type of deal 10:01 with DonorBox and saying, 10:03 hey, we will write a similar post about this. 10:05 Can you place us in one of the top nine 10:07 and make it a top 10 instead by including us? 10:10 And we will also mention you in our listicle 10:13 that you write a similar blog post for. 10:16 The next one is GoFundMe. 10:17 They also wrote a similar blog post 10:19 about the top charity fundraising sites, 10:21 and they also highlight themselves as number one, 10:25 and then they highlight some of these other competitors. 10:28 So as you see, DonorBox and GoFundMe and Classy, 10:31 they all kind of link to each other, 10:33 and you should be able to make sure 10:36 that you also rank for those specific pages. 10:39 This will really help everyone's traffic, 10:41 and if you make a nice group team effort, 10:44 you will be able to rank higher compared to the other ones. 10:48 So you make your small little click. 10:50 The other page, the keywords that are really nice 10:52 are donate button. 10:54 So they rank here for the homepage, 10:57 and DonorBox has it even in their title on the homepage. 11:01 There's the free donate button, DonorBox, 11:04 and if people type something in like this 11:06 because people want to add a donate button, 11:08 PayPal is ranking for this, DonorBox is ranking for this, 11:11 and GoFundMe and other ones as well, and GiveBudder. 11:14 So this is a keyword that you also absolutely need to have 11:18 because this might be already to add to their website 11:21 because they just want a donate button. 11:23 They don't want anything special. 11:25 GoFundMe also has a specific donate button page, 11:28 and here you just go through this entire list, 11:31 non-profit versus non-profit, 11:34 how to start a fundraiser, donation websites, 11:37 and you make, you group these up. 11:41 Some of these overlap, 11:42 so one way that I try to improve this 11:45 is by making an export and getting this entire CSV list, 11:50 and I made a website over here. 11:52 It's called the Ahrefs Gap Report. 11:54 You just paste in this CSV over here, 11:57 and then you get a list of the keyword gaps, 12:01 and that's like a better view 12:03 compared to the keyword gap that we already saw before. 12:05 It's just a little bit more optimized 12:07 because it will filter and group by pages, 12:10 and then if you expand the list, 12:12 you actually see all the keywords 12:14 that are ranking for a specific page. 12:17 So GoFundMe is mostly getting traffic 12:19 from a donation site, donation websites, and so on. 12:24 Donate button is for the homepage for DonorBug, 12:27 and the next one, if we sort by value, 12:29 which means the cost per click times the amount of traffic, 12:33 so those are the pages that have the most potential, 12:36 especially for Google Ads or other ones. 12:39 You'll see that donation sites, 12:40 they are very high for all this, 12:43 but also how to start a fundraiser. 12:45 And this, because we saw this keyword, 12:47 it's not something that BetterWorld.org has 12:51 or is ranking for the top 100 at all, 12:53 and if we check here, that's true. 12:55 Some ways that you can add that 12:57 is definitely write your own LinkedIn post 13:00 or also contact all of these competitors 13:03 that are already ranking 13:04 and make sure that you write a similar page 13:07 or you write your own blog post over here. 13:09 So if we go scroll a little bit more 13:13 and just go through it quickly, 13:15 we can see that we have a lot of different ways 13:18 to start a fundraiser. 13:19 How to get funding for a non-profit, 13:20 thank you for donation, 13:22 free email marketing for non-profits, 13:24 grants to start a non-profit, 13:25 how to make a donation paid, 13:26 how to get donations, tax to donate, 13:28 fundraising ideas, non-profit funding, 13:32 point of sale system, 13:33 how to raise money for a mission trip, and so on. 13:37 So there's actually a huge list that you can go through, 13:39 and if you're using this tool that I made, 13:41 you can also copy this entire table as Markdown 13:44 and paste it into Notion. 13:45 This really helps us optimize, actually, 13:47 a lot of our SEO audit work, 13:49 and it's a great strategy for bigger sites, 13:51 making sure that you match all these keywords 13:54 that your competitors already have keywords for, 13:56 and making sure that you write even better quality posts 13:59 and make sure that you're also ranking for those keywords. 14:02 It is the best way to make the best progress over time, 14:06 because you are already sure 14:08 your competitors already have this keyword, 14:09 and you can chip out a little bit of that pie. 14:13 The thing that I'm looking at here 14:14 is just the amount of backlinks. 14:16 So these are backlinks 14:17 that Better World doesn't have a link from. 14:20 For example, the Guardian donor box is often highlighted. 14:23 You can, for example, support the journalism here 14:26 and they have a donation form, 14:27 or GoFundMe, there's a lot of backlinks from here, 14:31 from the Guardian, or similar websites, 14:33 but not from Better World. 14:35 So this might be a huge list, 14:38 but it's something to keep in mind. 14:39 What are these strategies that they're doing so well 14:42 that they get so much links from? 14:43 For example, of course, everyone knows GoFundMe, 14:46 and you can donate directly. 14:47 I hope this overall quick SEO roast helps 14:51 in getting you more traffic 14:53 and figuring out some tips or ideas 14:56 of how to work with a bigger domain ratings website. 14:58 Good luck.
